Pasture’s Pride Natural Meats

Pasture’s Pride is a farm in Kutztown, Berks County, that specializes in natural, pasture raised meats.  I ordered a batch of 10 chickens that I picked up last September, and I am keeping them in mind for beef when we run out of our current supply.   I drove out to Kutztown one foggy fall morning to pick up a batch of chickens I had ordered.  You need to place your orders early in the season; they run out fast.  The chickens have been wonderful — they are tender and tasty.  Their prices are better than most, and they are committed to raising their animals on grass.  I definitely plan to order a half a cow this spring.

Joy was friendly and accommodating when I arrived to pick up my chickens.  I also ordered several quarts of lard that have kept us in fried food heaven for the past few months.

From their site:

We are a family owned and operated farm committed to providing healthy and delicious meat to our community and beyond in an environmentally friendly manner.

Our beef is grass finished “Argentina style” without grain. Our lamb is also raised entirely on grass. All of our animals are raised without the use of hormones or antibiotics on high quality pastures. We use natural fertilizers on our pastures and do not use chemical pesticides and herbicides.

Pasture’s Pride does not have regular store hours.  They ask that you call before coming.  You can email Joy Stutzman at pasturespride@verizon.net to subscribe to their mailing list.
